Mezzo-soprano Elena Chavdarova-Isa was born in the city of Kardzhali. She graduated the State Academy of Music "Pancho Vladigerov", Sofia in the singing class of Associate Prof. Irena Brambarova. She has specialized in a studio for young opera singers at the Sofia National Opera.
Elena Chavdarova-Isa made her debut in 1993 with the role of Maddalena from Verdi's "Rigoletto". The same year she was appointed soloist of the Plovdiv State Opera and since 1997 she is a regular guest performer at the Sofia National Opera.
The singer is laureate of several international competitions: 3rd prize from the International competition for young singers "Boris Hristov" (Sofia, Bulgaria, 1996), 1st special prize of the singing competition in Bilbao (Spain, 1996) and recognition from the Operalia competition (Tokyo, Japan, 1997).
Her repertiore includes a number of mezzo-soprano parts, among which are: Amneris - "Aida", Eboli - "Don Carlos", Azucena - "Il Travotare", Fenena - "Nabucco", Maddalena - "Rigoletto", "Laura - "La Gioconda", Ulrica - "Un ballo di maschera", as well as roles in the operas: "Madama Butterfly", "Carmen", Cavalliera rusticana", "Maria Tudor", "Eugenio Onegin", "Massa da Requiem", "Dame Pique" and many others. She has performed alongside L. Lima, A. Maestri, P. Domingo, G. Dimitrova, C. Almaguer, P. Romano, N. Ghiuselev, K. Stoyanova, K. Kaludov, P. Dvorsky, E. Ivanov, M. Giordani in operas conducted by R. Chailly, Y. Temirkanov, Guadanio, Giusti.
Elena Chavdarova-Isa has had successful tours in Europe, Asia and Latin America.
