The "St.Jordan’s Day" lake was created to meet the need for a proper place where to throw the cross on St.Jordan’s Day as the Orthodox tradition requires. This holiday is celebrated by many people in Bulgaria, including the village of Ilindenci. Although there are rivers in the region of Ilindenci, they are all mountain rivers and have few and small pools. To satisfy the need for a proper place where to throw the cross, Art Centre Ilindentci foundation, created with the sculptures Ognian Petkov and Veselin Dimov the "St.Jordan’s Day" lake and the sculptural composition around it.

    In that same sculptural complex by the project of Krasimir Mitov has been created the sculptural object "The River Ford", making it possible for people to cross the river. For it`s construction stone blocks were used, making it stable and secure and at the same time harmonizing with the natural setting.

    The renovation of the sculptural object "St.Jordan`s day" lake was realized in 2004-2005 with financial help by the program Phare of EC.
